A DESI DINERA DESI DINER

1 Free Combo Meal ($5 value)

A Desi Diner is an exciting new addition to Manhattan. It is for local New Yorkers interested in the local dining scene with a little twist, as well as, for tourists offering a packing punch of the uniqueness New York has to offer.

Desi in hindi refers to the peoples, cultures and products of the Indian subcontinent (encompassing India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Nepal and arguably more). The word is originally (or claimed to be) from the language Sanskrit literally meaning “from the country” or “of the country”.

Just as a diner offers breakfast, lunch, dinner and late night dining, A Desi Diner offers all that with a twist i.e. offering Desi (Indian Subcontinent) cuisine and many popular American menu items under the same roof. The cuisine itself is authentic and deep rooted, but what is unique is the menu that unites food lovers from across the globe offering popular Desi and American menu items!

The decor is deep, rich red with bold stainless steel and bright lighting yet very simple and inviting. The menu ranges from classic breakfast selections, sandwiches, burgers, curries, kabaabs from the tandoor (Indian Clay Oven), dosa, desserts, milk shakes, and more!

    Music Masters of Wales

      Saturday, March 6 at 8pm

      Stern Auditorium/Perelman Stage, Carnegie Hall

Distinguished Concerts International New York (DCINY) presents a concert featuring the music of renowned Welsh composers Karl Jenkins and Arwel Hughes.

The event coincides with Wales Week USA, presented in association with the Welsh Assembly Government. Karl Jenkins, of West Glamorgan, Wales, will be conducting three of his own works – Euphonium Concerto (US Premiere), Palladio, and Sacred Songs.

Euphonium Concerto is to be performed by the soloist for whom it was written, David Childs. Jenkins comments on composing the work: “It’s been a privilege to write a concerto for such a virtuoso performer. I’ve endeavored to make the concerto somewhat quirky and ‘off the wall’. “Palladio‘s theme is based on perhaps the most-heard classical piece in advertising, the theme used by De Beers diamond merchants for their successful jewelry campaign. Maestro Jenkins will also lead selections from his work Sacred Songs, which is a choral suite drawn from Jenkins’ most popular works. Specific movements for this performance include Ave Verum from Stabat Mater and Benedictus from The Armed Man.

Dr. Jonathan Griffith, DCINY Principal Conductor, will also be at the podium conducting Arwel Hughes’ Dewi Sant. The Oratorio Dewi Sant was Hughes’ first large-scale work of its kind and was commissioned by the Arts Council of Great Britain as part of the Welsh contributions to the Festival of Britain in 1951. He appropriately selected the patron saint of Wales as his subject. The work is modern, yet cast in a traditional mold. Hughes’ music is colorful in harmony, while maintaining a lyrical and contemplative tone. This work serves as an appropriate conclusion to the celebration of the music and culture of Wales from a decorated native son.

    Mainly Mozart

      Friday, March 19 at 8pm

    MAINLY MOZART at Carnegie Hall
Vesperae solennes de Confessore(David B. Gardner, Debut Conductor) and Vesperae de Dominica (Mark Lawlor, Debut Conductor). Pikes Peak Wind Symphony (Richard Kusk, Conductor) and Distinguished Concerts Singers and Orchestra International will accompany Lynn Eustis, Soprano, April Golliver, Mezzo-Soprano and Kim Childs, Tenor.

“Mozart in his music was probably the most reasonable of the world’s great composers. It is the happy balance between flight and control, between sensibility and self-discipline, simplicity and sophistication of style that is his particular province… Mozart tapped once again the source from which all music flows, expressing himself with a spontaneity and refinement and breath-taking rightness that has never since been duplicated.”

Aaron Copland, Copland on Music (1960)

“O Mozart, immortal Mozart, how many, how infinitely many inspiring suggestions of a finer, better life have you left in our souls!”

    Franz Schubert, Diary, 1816
