OCHO LOCO WEEKEND and 8coupons Falafel Eating Contest @ Tasty Falafel

8COUPONS can save you some money, that’s for sure. But can it get you good eats, drinks, and entertainment for a whole weekend for under $2 bucks?

Well that’s why we call it OCHO LOCO! The thrill factor of giving the bouncer a quarter for 3 bottles of Miller is unbelievable! Who says you can’t live on the cheap in NYC! With 8coupons, you can eat well and be entertained without having to break your piggy bank!

To prove it, we just kicked off another OCHO LOCO weekend with 8-cent falafels and a falafel eating contest! The OCHO LOCO took place earlier this evening at Tasty Falafel on St. Marks. Hundreds of people came by, got their yummy 8-cent falafel and witnessed 10 people chowing down on 8 falafel balls on a bed of hummus. Our Falafel Eating Champion was Arnie Chapman, who swallowed the 8 balls in 78 seconds (the 8 was just coincidence). Matt Haines (who we’re really sorry the camera man didn’t capture) came in a close 2nd, literally by a hummus lick away. The very noble Arnie Chapman (who also just happens to be a competitive eater), gave up his prize to Matt, who will receive a special 8coupons mobile coupon for 8-cent falafels until December 7th, 2008! Matt, are you really going to eat falafels everyday for a whole year? Keep us posted on this blog will you? Oh, and by the way, contact us so I can text you that coupon!

So now that we have one OCHO LOCO down for the weekend, we’re geared up for the two we have tomorrow where we’ll be heading over to Wicked Willy’s in Greenwich Village on Bleeker St. for 8-cent beer, free beer pong and karaoke! What more can you ask for? 88-cent Empanadas to soak up all that alcohol? OK.

After a short happy hour with 3 bottles of Miller beer (for less than a quarter), we’ll then walk across the street over to Bamboleo Mexican Restaurant for 88-cent Margaritas and Sangrias!

Perhaps a better idea would be to go to Bamboleo’s at 3PM to get some 88-cent empanadas, then head over to Wicked Willy’s to eat it with the 3 bottles of 8-cent beer, and then come back to Bamboleo’s for 88-cent Margaritas and Sangrias. No, we’re not alcoholics. We’re just OCHO LOCO!

NYC on the cheap

People are always complaining about how expensive NYC is. No doubt you can certainly find a place to buy a $50 hamburger if you really wanted to here, but you don’t always have to break the bank to discover delicious, authentic food. Especially, when you’re living in one of the most diverse cities in the world! As a matter of fact, there are a lot of cheap eats, free food, drinks, and entertainment in NYC. There’s an awesome site that we discovered not too long ago called http://www.cheapassfood.com that’s all about discovering different local restaurants and eateries in New York where you can get yummy grub on the cheap. cheap ass food

It’s a brave new world for start-ups – USATODAY.com

NEW YORK — There are a few hurdles between Landy Ung and her dream of growing her start-up into a household name. One is the fact that her only outside funding comes from her mom’s fried chicken restaurant, another is that her only full-time programmer is her boyfriend, who has a day job.

She and her boyfriend, Wan Hsi Yuan, 27, run the business, 8coupons.com, from their 500-square-foot studio apartment, meaning headquarters is, effectively, their couch. The business, which text messages discounts to users’ mobile phones, keeps Yuan and Ung, who is 28, up until 3 a.m. most nights. Then, Ung said, she sometimes finds herself lying awake, worrying.

“I need to watch a little National Geographic special on the rain forest or something before I go to sleep,” she said.

Welcome start-up life in 2007……..
